Organ Transplant

An organ transplant is a surgical operation in which a failing or damaged organ in the human body is removed and replaced with a functioning one. The most common organ transplants are Kidney, Heart, Bone Marrow, and Lung.

Organ transplant recipients can generally do anything that they previously did with very few restrictions. It is suggested to wait a minimum of 3 months post surgery before introducing an exercise program.  Consult your surgeon or health care provider for approval to use WBV.

Some key points to remember if you have had an organ transplant:

-avoid overuse and fatigue using any exercise program

-avoid long distant running more than 10km or 6miles

-drink good quality water to avoid dehydration

-be aware of organ rejection symptoms

Experts say:

"Exercise does not mean running a marathon, becoming a body builder, or taking up rock climbing." Be realistic with your first attempts to exercise.Lara Tushla, MSW, LCSW  How Can You Care For Your New Kidney Transplant?

"Heart transplant patients seem to be able to exercise on vibrating plates with no adverse events. (Crevenna R ,Fialka-Moser V,Ro ¨dler S,et al.Safety of whole body vibration exercise for heart transplant recipients.)

"The cardiovascular and metabolic response of  WBV is similar to standard aerobic exercise."
Phys Rehab Kur Med, 2003; 13: 286-290

There is a fundamental need to maintain regular exercise after organ transplants.(Risk Factors for Loss of Lean Body Mass after Liver Transplantation(1998) Hussaini SH,Stewart Sp)

Conclusion: It seems that WBV may be a perfect low impact exercise to help improve overall health following transplant surgery, providing you wait a minimum of 3 months. Vibration Therapy may help with some of the side effects caused by the necessary post surgery medications.

It's important to know that there are two types of Vibration technologies available; Linear/Lineal and Oscillating/Pivotal. They are both Vibration machines but the difference is how the vibration is 'delivered' to the body. T-Zone Health uses Oscillating Technology which is the technology that is most popular with Chiropractors, Physiotherapists and rehab institutions. We always suggest that you get advice from a Health Care Provider before trying any forms of exercise including WBV (whole body vibration). If your Health Care Provider would like more information on WBV please have them contact Scoop & Save Health Foods or T-Zone Health.

We always suggest trying the machine for a few free trial sessions at our studio. Try slower speeds at first and listen to your body. If you feel any discomfort or feel light headed, please stop using the machine.
