DIABETES

Cortisol-Insulin Connection:What we already know...

-sugar condition in the blood causes spikes of cortisol trying to control the sugar/insulin

-Insulin suppresses cortisol

-WBV helps normalize insulin

-WBV helps decrease  Cortisol (up to 30% per session)

-Exercise Alone Shown To Improve Insulin Sensitivity In Obese Sedentary Adolescents-Science Daily (Sept 11,2009)

-Exercise Pivotal In Preventing and Fighting Type II Diabetes (Feb. ... 2009)

-Type 2 diabetes can sometimes be turned around with weight loss, a healthy diet and exercise

It seems that WBV helps normalize insulin and cortisol nicely. It seems like WBV (a low impact and safe form of exercise) is part of the solution, not part of the problem...

According to the mechanical theory, the mechanical loads on bones help to determine bone

strength, and the largest loads come from muscle forces. High frequency mechanical strain

has been shown to stimulate bone strength. The aim of this randomized controlled trial was to

assess the musculoskeletal and hormonal effects of high-frequency loading by means of

whole body vibration (WBV) in women suffering from diabetes type II, with microalbuminuria

Twenty five women (age42-74years) were randomly assigned to a whole body vibration

training group (WBV) trained 3 times weekly for 24 weeks .The WBV group performed static

and dynamic knee-extensor exercises on a vibration platform which mechanically loaded the bone

and evoked reflexive muscle constructions. Hip bone density was measured at

base line and after 6 month intervention. Parathormone (PTH), osteocalcin, calcium,

albumins, glucose, insulin, erythropoietin, growth hormone (GH), cortisol (C) levels in

plasma and albumin in urine every 2 months time No vibration-related side effects were

observed. Vibration training improved isometric and dynamic muscle strength (+13.75% and

+16.8%, respectively,p,0.01) and also significantly increased bone mass density (BMD) of the

hip (+0.83%,p,0.05)  The glucose profile was more controlled and 18 patients lost weight (0.8-

4.5kg) keeping same dietary plan. The blood pressure was normal before and after the

vibration training (all patients were receiving medication). GH levels increased by 460%, (C)

levels decreased by 32%, erythropoietin levels increased by 6.4% and insulin levels

increased by 8.6%. WBV training maybe a feasible and effective way to modify well

recognized risk factors of osteoporosis in women with microalbuminuria.
